There has never been a year like 2020. Not in our lifetimes, anyway. When we go out to do a house wash in Auckland, or to clean windows, or gutters, or any of our other services, we encounter homeowners who are saying exactly the same thing. Many of those homeowners are new clients who suddenly feel the need to show off their homes at their very best. They’ve become more houseproud and after the year we’ve endured, we think we know why.
2020 was the year of the COVID-19 lockdown, and we certainly went through more than our fair share in Auckland. During the lockdown, most of us were stuck at home. The house we took for granted as a place where we ate and slept when we weren’t at work became so much more for us. For adults, it became an office. For kids, it became a classroom. It was the centre of the great Kiwi family reconnection where we cooked, played games and got to know each other again. It became a home once more.
During this time, we rediscovered our home. We became reacquainted with all things that made us fall in love with the property in the first place. These things are often forgotten or taken for granted when we come and go from the house during our busy lives. But through the lockdown period, when we weren’t able to go anywhere, we were forced to spend our waking hours at home. When we did we began to remind ourselves of why this place meant so much to us when we first bought it – and it began to mean just as much to us again. It was our sanctuary in an uncertain world during COVID and we started to treat it with the respect it deserves.
That’s our theory! We believe Aucklanders are houseproud once again and this is reflected in the number of new customers we have. Not only did they fall in love with their homes but they noticed its less perfect features too; the grey deck, the shabby roof, the overflowing gutters, the dirty windows, the grimy external walls. All of these things are not what a newly houseproud homeowner wants the world to see – so they called us in to do some exterior house cleaning.
